Japan confers prestigious decoration on former Pakistani ambassador Farukh Amil

Islamabad:The Government of Japan has conferred the prestigious 'Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star' on former Pakistan Ambassador to Japan Farukh Akhter Amil in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between the two countries.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan on Tuesday, the decoration was announced on November 3, 2026, as part of Japan's 2026 Fall Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.

Farukh Amil served as Pakistan's ambassador to Japan from 2013 to 2017, during which he played a significant role in promoting bilateral cooperation, particularly in cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

In August 2015, he invited Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado to a calligraphy exhibition organized at the Embassy of Pakistan in Japan, marking an important contribution to strengthening cultural ties with the Japanese Imperial Family.

He also delivered lectures at more than 50 universities across Japan and held repeated interactions with students and researchers, promoting mutual understanding and friendship among younger generations.

Beyond diplomatic engagement, Amil earned appreciation for his humanitarian gesture towards the people of Fukushima, which was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

Shortly after assuming his diplomatic assignment, and even before presenting his credentials, he personally visited Fukushima to express solidarity with the affected residents. His visit was described by local people as 'unforgettable support' and left a lasting impression on the community.

Even after completing his ambassadorial tenure, he continued working to strengthen understanding of Japan in Pakistan.

In February 2025, he co-hosted a photography exhibition titled 'Beautiful Japan - Through the Eyes of an Ambassador' with the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan. The exhibition featured photographs taken by him during his diplomatic posting in Japan and received coverage in 14 major Pakistani newspapers.
