Jhang: The district administration of Jhang will organise the first-ever Jhang Desert Rally and a three-day cultural festival from October 9 to 11, 2026, at Rehmatabad in Tehsil Athara Hazari.

The event is being organised under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to promote tourism and highlight the province's local culture, traditions and heritage.

Deputy Commissioner Jhang Babar Sahib Din said the event would showcase Jhang's desert landscape, cultural heritage, historical sites, traditions and natural beauty to domestic and international visitors.

The desert rally will feature several categories, including a dedicated race for women. Around 100 skilled drivers and riders from across Pakistan are expected to participate, while visitors from different parts of the country and abroad are also expected to attend.

The rally will cover a 95-kilometre desert track across the Thal region. Camps for participants and visitors, along with a food court and residential facilities, will also be established.

The three-day festival will include the desert rally, displays of Thal culture, horse riding and dancing, traditional games, folk music, kabaddi, volleyball and a musical night.

Jhang has extensive desert areas, including around 6,000 square kilometres of the Thal region, besides the confluence of the Chenab and Jhelum rivers and a rich historical and cultural heritage.

The district administration said the event would provide a platform to showcase Jhang's indigenous culture, traditional sports, folk arts and hospitality while promoting the district as a destination for cultural and adventure tourism.
