Islamabad: JI has challenged Election Commission (EC) notification regarding withdrawal of schedule of local bodies election in Islamabad.

The court while issuing notice to the respondents has sought reply from them.

Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of IHC took up the JI petition for hearing Tuesday.

During the hearing of the case JI Islamabad Amir Nasrullah Randhawa appeared in the court along with his counsel Chaudhry Shoaib Ahmad.

The counsel for the petitioner took the plea earlier Local government amendment ordinance has been challenged in the court. While EC has now withdrawn the schedule for local bodies polls.

According to the counsel local bodies polls were held in Islamabad in 2015. Its five years tenure has been completed.

The counsel told the court as per law it is compulsory to hold election within 120 days on expiry of term of local bodies.

Therefore, the notification for withdrawing the local bodies election schedule be nullified besides issuing orders for holding the local bodies polls immediately.

The petitioner also requested that the central case is fixed on January 27. The notification be stayed till that time.

The court however refused to issue stay order immediately.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 27.
