Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded an immediate reduction in petrol prices and the abolition of the petroleum levy, urging the public to participate in nationwide protests scheduled for August 7.
In a statement posted on X, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman described the petroleum levy as an extortion and jagga tax, saying that it amounts to daylight robbery against the public. He called on the government to immediately withdraw the levy and lower petrol prices to provide relief to citizens.
He said the August 7 protest would write a new chapter in country’s history of resistance, and appealed to students, young people, bike riders, delivery workers, couriers, labourers, farmers and people from all walks of life to take to the streets on motorcycles and in vehicles as part of the nationwide demonstration.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stressed that the public would secure their rights through peaceful political resistance and urged citizens to join the movement in large numbers to
press the government to accept the people’s demands.
