Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday announced the launch of a city-wide public movement, 'Haq Do Peshawar Ko', aimed at mobilizing citizens to demand long-delayed economic, constitutional and civic rights amid rising inflation, unemployment and deteriorating law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Announcing the campaign at the Peshawar Press Club, party leaders blamed both federal and provincial governments for poor governance, corruption and worsening law and order. JI Provincial General Secretary and former lawmaker Sabir Hussain Awan was named patron-in-chief, while former provincial minister Kashif Azam Khalil was appointed president of the movement.

Speaking to reporters, Awan and Kashif Azam criticized 13 years of uninterrupted rule by the same party in the province, alleging failure to address inflation, unemployment and insecurity. They also demanded accountability for what they claimed was corruption amounting to Rs. 8,400 billion, and said development claims made on social media must be matched by performance on the ground.

They said the campaign would mobilize citizens at the grassroots level and pursue a peaceful, constitutional struggle to secure public rights and highlight governance failures across the province.
