Islamabad: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab, Dr. Tariq Saleem, has said that Jamaat-e-Islami is waging a resolute struggle to safeguard the ideological and geographical boundaries of Pakistan.

Speaking at a members' convention in Kotla Galiana, Dr. Tariq Saleem emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami has always stood at the forefront in times of national crises, serving the people and the Ummah without discrimination or prejudice.

He stated that Jamaat-e-Islami's central leadership, under Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, is vigorously advocating for the rights of the underprivileged, including the poor, laborers, farmers, and the economically marginalized segments of society.

Criticizing current economic policies, Dr. Tariq Saleem expressed concern over the government's imposition of heavy taxes on essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, gas, and electricity, while powerful mafias, including the sugar cartel, continue to operate unchecked. He highlighted the stark contrast between the expanding privileges of ministers, bureaucrats, judges, and military officials and the growing economic burden on ordinary citizens.

He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami is now entering the second phase of its membership campaign, forming public committees at the union council and ward levels across the country. These committees, he said, will serve as grassroots platforms to address public grievances and offer solutions to local problems.

'When global oil prices fall, the public in Pakistan sees no benefit, while ruling elites enjoy free petrol and electricity,' Dr. Tariq Saleem remarked. 'Such insensitivity highlights the growing disconnect between the rulers and the suffering masses. In the name of averting economic collapse, the public is being sacrificed, and unprecedented economic exploitation is taking place.'

He further stated that decisions dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have eroded public trust and are contributing to the government's loss of credibility.

Other Jamaat-e-Islami leaders including Dr. Khalid Mahmood Saqib, Ansar Mahmood Dhol, Hafiz Asad Iqbal, Muhammad Shabbir Mirza, and Hafiz Muhammad Ajmal also addressed the convention and reiterated the party's commitment to social justice, transparency, and service to the nation.
