Islamabad: The Acting Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, has addressed separate letters to the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressing grave concern over the rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In his letters, Saghar drew attention to the large-scale crackdown carried out by Indian authorities, including the reported arbitrary detention of more than 3,000 Kashmiri youth, the demolition of residential houses and private properties, and the continued policy of collective punishment against the civilian population.
The Acting Chairman urged the Government of Pakistan to intensify its diplomatic efforts by raising these grave human rights violations at the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the UN Human Rights Council, the European Union, and other relevant international forums. He stressed the need for immediate international intervention to ensure the protection of the Kashmiri people and to hold India accountable under international human rights and humanitarian law.
Mahmood Ahmed Saghar emphasized that arbitrary arrests, house demolitions, and collective punitive measures constitute serious violations of international law and further aggravate tensions in the region. He called upon the international community to take urgent notice of these developments and press India to end its repressive policies in the occupied territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party expressed hope that Pakistan's leadership would continue extending strong political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and make every possible effort to mobilize the international community in support of the Kashmiri people's internationally recognized right to self-determination.
The Party also appealed to the United Nations, the OIC, international human rights organizations, and influential world powers to play an effective role in ending the ongoing repression, arbitrary detentions, and destruction of civilian property in IIOJK, and to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
