JKDFP pays rich tribute to martyr Sheikh Abdul Aziz, says his sacrifice remains an indelible chapter in Kashmir’s freedom struggle

Srinagar: The Spokesperson of the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), Advocate Arshad Iqbal, has paid rich tribute to the martyr of the Kashmir freedom struggle, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on his martyrdom anniversary, saying that he devoted his entire life to the struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.Advocate Arshad Iqbal said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz was martyred on August 11, 2008, when he was leading, along with JKDFP President Shabir Ahmad Shah, a massive caravan of hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris protesting against the economic blockade imposed on the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The peaceful procession was moving towards the Uri border area when Sheikh Abdul Aziz became the target of Indian occupying forces and embraced martyrdom.The JKDFP spokesperson said that the historic procession, led by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Shaheed and Shabir Ahmad Shah, represented the collective resolve of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation, repre ssion and economic strangulation. The participation of hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated the popular character of the Kashmir freedom movement and the unwavering commitment of the Kashmiri people to their right to self-determination.He said that Sheikh Abdul Aziz Shaheed's life, struggle and supreme sacrifice constitute an unforgettable chapter in the history of Kashmir's freedom struggle. His martyrdom continues to inspire the Kashmiri people, particularly the younger generation, to remain steadfast in their peaceful and political struggle for their fundamental rights.Advocate Arshad Iqbal emphasized that the sacrifices of Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs cannot be forgotten or ignored. He said that remembering the martyrs is not merely a tribute to their past sacrifices but also a reaffirmation of the Kashmiri people's determination to continue their legitimate struggle for freedom, dignity and self-determination.The JKDFP spokesperson urged the international community, particul arly the United Nations, to take meaningful steps to address the longstanding Kashmir dispute and ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are allowed to exercise their internationally recognized right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.He reiterated that the JKDFP will continue to uphold the political and peaceful struggle of the Kashmiri people and will never allow the sacrifices of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Shaheed and other martyrs to be forgotten.
