Srinagar: The Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has welcomed the ongoing Track-II diplomatic engagement between India and Pakistan, describing all sincere efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peaceful dialogue as positive developments for regional peace and stability.
Dr. Ghulam Rasool, General Secretary of JKDFP, stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have consistently advocated dialogue and peaceful engagement as the only credible means of resolving conflicts. He emphasized, however, that any dialogue process which fails to address the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in a serious, meaningful, and result-oriented manner cannot deliver sustainable peace in South Asia.
“The Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the core issue between India and Pakistan. A durable peace in the region will remain elusive unless this internationally recognized dispute is resolved through peaceful negotiations,” he said.
Dr. Ghulam Rasool reaffirmed JKDFP’s support for every genuine peace initiative that seeks a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He stressed that any meaningful peace process must include the genuine pro-freedom leadership and the authentic representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who are the principal party to the dispute.
He noted that excluding the people of Jammu and Kashmir from negotiations would undermine the credibility and effectiveness of any peace initiative. An inclusive dialogue, involving all principal stakeholders, is indispensable for achieving a comprehensive and sustainable settlement.
Dr. Ghulam Rasool concluded by reiterating that a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, consistent with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the universally recognized right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination, is essential for lasting peace, regional stability, and constructive relations between India and Pakistan.
