Srinagar: The Spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) , Dr. Irfan Khan, has strongly condemned the recent attack on tourists in Pahalgam, labeling it a heinous and reprehensible act aimed at maligning the people of Kashmir. In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Irfan Khan denounced the cowardly assault on innocent tourists, calling it an inhumane and deplorable attempt to disrupt peace and vilify the Kashmiri freedom movement. 'We have strong reasons to believe that Indian intelligence agencies are behind this appalling incident. Historically, such agencies have consistently sought to destabilize the region and discredit the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people,' he said.He linked the timing of the attack to the recent nationwide protests against the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill, which was passed by the Indian Parliament. According to Dr. Irfan Khan, the Modi government, rattled by the public outcry and political embarrassment, is orchestrating such conspiracies to d ivert attention and mislead the international community.'It is deeply concerning that incidents of this nature often coincide with visits by senior U.S. officials to India,' Dr. Irfan noted. 'This pattern highlights a troubling mindset within the Indian establishment-an effort to stage-manage unrest in order to justify its heavy-handed policies in Kashmir and to manipulate global perceptions.'He recalled the painful memory of the 2000 Chattisinghpora massacre, where Indian forces were directly implicated in the brutal killing of innocent Sikh civilians. 'That tragedy, like the recent incident in Pahalgam, was clearly intended to tarnish the image of the peaceful Kashmiri resistance by giving it a communal or terrorist hue,' he added.Dr. Irfan Khan emphasized that such attacks are part of a broader narrative designed to project Kashmir as unstable and unsafe, particularly for international visitors. 'The objective is to undermine the moral legitimacy of the Kashmir freedom movement and portray it falsely as a threat to global security,' he said.He reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement remains firmly committed to a peaceful and democratic struggle for the right to self-determination. 'These vile tactics by the Indian government will not dampen the spirit of the Kashmiri people,' he asserted. The organization called on the international community to take urgent notice of such malicious acts and to recognize the ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. 'We demand an impartial and transparent investigation into the Pahalgam incident. The perpetrators must be brought to justice. Kashmiris have always been known for their hospitality and peaceful nature, and this attack is a deliberate attempt to tarnish that reputation,' Dr. Irfan Khan concluded.
