Islamabad: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has expressed grave concern over kidnapping and arrest of senior journalist Mati Ullah Jan.PFUJ president Afzal Butt, secretary general Arshid Ansari and finance secretry Lala Asad Pathan have condemned the arest of Mati Ullah Jan and appealed to president Asif Zardari, prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi to intervene in the matter.PFUJ said in a statement that release of Mati Ullah Jan be ensured. He was lifted from PIMS hospital parking and was kept under police illegally for several hours. Later he was handed over to custody of Margalla police but he was not informed about charges.One more journalist Saqib Bashir was lifted along with Mati Ullah but he was released.PFUJ demanded for immediate and transparent inquiry into the incident besides holding accountable whosoever is responsible.PFUJ said if Mati Ullah Jan is not released then journalists will hold country wide protest.
