Islamabad: Senior judge of Supreme Court (SC) Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has opposed extension in tenure of Constitutional Bench (CB).

Expressing his reservation in extension of period of constitutional bench, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah wrote a letter to secretary Judicial Commission (JC) on June 16.

He made it clear in the letter that extension in tenure of bench without deciding about 26th constitutional amendment can be harmful to judiciary.

He stressed that haste in this matter can undermine the credibility of this institution.

Justice Mansoor wrote in the letter he would not be present in Pakistan in connection with June 19 meeting. He has informed about it in advance.

He demanded that his non presence in the meeting and written stance be included in minutes of meeting.

He said in the letter that questions can be raised on the impartiality of judiciary due to extension in constitutional bench. This can undermine legitimacy of judiciary.

He expressed concern over it that the influence of executive on judicial commission is growing which is not good omen for judicial autonomy.

He proposed all judges be declared constitutional bench till the decision regarding 26th constitutional amendment.
