Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad of LHC refuses to hear petition against election amendment act 2024


Lahore: Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad of Lahore High Court (LHC) has recused from hearing petition against Election Amendment Act -2024.

Petition filed by citizen Munir Ahmad came up for hearing before Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad Tuesday.

Advocate Azhar Siddique appeared on behalf of the petitioner in the court.

Federal government, Election commission and different political parties have been made respondents.

Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad remarked this petition pertains to interpretation of Supreme Court (SC) decision. I am not available on LHC principal seat. Therefore, I am sending this case file to acting chief justice LHC today.

The petitioner is of the view that attempt has been made to abolish the SC decision about reserved seats through the act. Election amendment act 2024 cannot be applied retrospectively.

It has been requested in the petition that election amendment act 2024 be declared illegal. They be stopped from giving reserved seats to any other party except PTI till the final decision of
the petition.
