Islamabad: Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Chairman J and K People's Freedom League and ex-Convener All Parties Hurriyat Conference AJ and K Chapter has expressed grave concern over developing of a fresh cycle of hazards and odds to the life of youth in the IIOJ and K and a large number of students in different education institutions, and Kashmiri traders across India, as a result of backlash in the wake of Pahalgam tragedy on 22 April 2025.

Strongly condemning the unexpected and gruesome murders of civilians by unknown gunmen on the last Tuesday in the thick meadow of the Valley, Farooq Rehmani warned that indiscriminate arrests of the Kashmiri youth, students or political workers in thousands and registering false cases or creating fake encounters and killing them brutally in custody, will not solve the tragic episode of the Pahalgam forest Valley. He feared that the Indian police, army, and paratroopers were behaving madly in their search for the culprits of the incident and had arrested thousands of Kashmiris and political sympathisers in the Islamabad Annantnag District and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Farooq Rehmani said instead of probing and investigating the carnage of 22 April fairly and impartially, the agencies and the so-called law enforcement agencies were giving testimony of their hate and anger against the Kashmiri Muslims and thereby harming any impartial investigation. He accused the police and army authorities of risking life and honour of the citizens and political workers and using third degree methods of torture during their raids on houses and police interrogations and themselves hiding facts of the Pahalgam incident. He stated the police barbarity and its atmosphere of backlash may kill citizens or political workers in police custody or in communal backlash, as the Indian government and media is running a madness revengeful campaign against the innocent people without going into the causes and ground realities of the 22 April carnage at Pahalgam. He made it clear that every kashmiri was equally shocked over an unfortunate incident but was against the twisted approach of the Indian governm ent.

He appealed to the UN Secretary General to keep an eye on the way India was handling the matter as there were no fair play and transparency but arrested and imprisoned people were being tortured or killed brutally in custody with third degree methods. He made it clear if India by such methods believed that the movement of the right of self-determination would die down, they were mistaken, but" it will re-emerge and resurface with greater public political force across the disputed and subjugated region".
