Peshawar: KP government has decided to hold new LB polls instead of extending current local bodies tenure."However new local bodies polls have been linked to other provinces.As per media reports on the other hand Local Council Association (Organization of local bodies representatives) have decided to resort to court if LB polls are not held in time.It may be mentioned LB polls were held in two phases in KP. In first phase the LB polls were held on December 19, 2021 while local bodies governments were set up on March 31, 2022. In second phase polls were held on June 22, 2022 in hilly areas.This way local bodies governments will stand dissolved on March 31, 2026 in plain areas and in June 2026 in hilly areas.Local Bodies representatives are of the view development funds were not issued to them during this period and their powers could not be determined as well. Therefore, their period be extended.According to KP law minister Aftab Alam no proposal for extending the period of local governments is un der consideration. If Punjab government is prepared to hold local bodies polls then provincial government too is prepared to conduct the polls. But local bodies institutions are not functional in Punjab.On the other hand local council association has decided to resort to court if LB polls are not held in KP on time.
