Lahore: The Lahore High Court has scheduled the hearing of the case concerning deaths caused by measles for February 27, 2026. The court will also review other related matters, including details of ventilators in hospitals across Punjab. Justice Owais Khalid will preside over the hearing, following a petition filed by lawyer Azhar Siddiq on behalf of the Judicial Activism Panel.
Earlier, the DG of Communicable Diseases Punjab had submitted an initial report to the court. During the previous hearing, the petitioner highlighted that hundreds of deaths had occurred in the past due to measles and dengue, and that the lack of ventilators in hospitals had contributed to excessive fatalities. The petitioner stressed that these deaths could have been prevented if basic facilities were available.
The court had previously ordered an investigation into measles-related deaths and, while seeking ventilator details from hospitals, adjourned the hearing until February 27.
