Peshawar: The Regional Union of Journalists (RUJ) Pakistan has launched its Peshawar-to-Karachi Train March, receiving a warm welcome from regional journalists, civil society members, and Railway Workers Union officials at Peshawar Cantt Railway Station, where participants were greeted with floral garlands.The Train March aims to demand approval of RUJ Pakistan's 10-point Charter of Demands and is being led by RUJ Senior Vice President Tahir Ahmad Shah, Secretary General Abid Mughal, and Secretary Information Shehzad Naqvi.Speaking on the occasion, RUJ Senior Vice President Tahir Ahmad Shah said the primary objective of the Train March is to peacefully convey the demands of regional journalists to federal and provincial governments and highlight their significance, rights, and identity.RUJ Secretary Information Shehzad Naqvi emphasized that the march is peaceful, non-political, and focused on the welfare of regional journalists. He called for inclusion of regional journalists in government policies on healthcare, education, professional growth, and economic stability, similar to journalists from major cities.He also demanded the establishment of media academies at the divisional level, an end to unjust actions against journalists, and the creation of journalist housing colonies at the district level. Additionally, he urged educational scholarships and marriage grants for journalists' children through the Journalist Support Fund, and insurance coverage of up to Rs. 5 million per journalist.RUJ Pakistan, the only national representative body of regional journalists, has been advocating for their rights for the past 13 years. The Train March, led by Tahir Ahmad Shah, Abid Mughal, and Shehzad Naqvi, gained strong support from the Railway Workers Union Peshawar Division. Union President Ashfaq Bacha and Haji Waheed lauded the journalists' movement and pledged full cooperation.As the train departed from Peshawar, it was warmly received by RUJ representatives and journalists at Nowshera, Jehangira, and Atto ck, where enthusiasm and solidarity marked the journey's early stages.
