Islamabad: Election Commission (EC) has given time for three weeks to KP government for legislation in connection with Local Bodies (LB) polls.
A 4-member commission led by member Sindh Nisar Durrani took up KP LB polls case for hearing.
Special secretary EC told the commission the process of demarcation of constituencies stands suspended in 7 districts of KP. Provincial government wants to hold LB Polls simultaneously in KP.
Chief Secretary KP had sought time for 3 weeks for legislation.
According to authorities provincial cabinet committee meeting was held on August 31. In the meeting the provincial government directed to review LB system in other provinces.
Chief secretary KP told in the meeting that provincial cabinet committee is deliberating over amendments in the law.
Member Balochistan remarked KP government is using dilatory tactics.
Member Sindh Nisar Durrani said LB polls will have to be got conducted . Commission has several constitutional avenues.
Special secretary said if provincial government decides the election commission will hold election simultaneously in the entire province.
Later Election Commission gave three weeks time to KP government besides adjourning the hearing of the case till September 29.
