Karachi: Legal battle of Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) and others has forced Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to retreat and withdraw its notification about commercialization of amenity plots in megacity Karachi.

PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor commenting on the development said that presently available civic infrastructure of the megacity is unable to sustain the present population and its further commercialization would be a civic disaster.

The government should plan new commercial estates and industrial districts in Karachi as the inner areas of the megacity are already densely crowded.

He said action should be taken against the officers of the SBCA who were involved to issue the controversial notification. He said the assets of these officers should also be assessed to ascertain the element of bribery.

Altaf Shakoor said we should also fight a war against corruption like the war fought against India. He said the Chief of Army Staff had announced plans to make Pakistan a 'hard state' and for this purpose the country should be made corruption-free.

Altaf Shakoor thanked all other parties and stakeholders who had joined the legal battle against the SBCA and said with the unity of all stakeholders of Karachi we could develop our megacity and make it a modern livable city.
