LHC orders to install water meters in commercial markets forthwith

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to install water meters in commercial markets forthwith. Justice Shahid Karim of LHC took up the petitions filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and others with reference to eradication of smog Friday. During the hearing of the petitions member judicial commission told the court excise department is not registering loader rickshaws. Justice Shahid Karim remarked government ordinance had come in regard to schools buses. That has expired. Are the schools walas so powerful that government became helpless. The court sought report by making amendment in rules related to Ching Chi and loader rickshaws. Member judicial water commission told the court water level is lowering to dangerous extent. Justice Shahid Karim remarked court is saying repeatedly that emergency be declared on water issue. The vehicles are being washed outside the homes openly. Water drought like situation is creating. Secretary EPA and chief secretary don't read these reports. Government should be extremel y serious on water issue.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked all will be OK when one or two homes are penalized. Impose fine of Rs 5000 and Rs 10000. We get issue circular to deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner.

The court adjourned the hearing till next Friday.
