LHC rejects petition against amendment in MVO

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) while rejecting the plea against amendments made by provincial government in Motor Vehicle Ordinance (MVO) has declared the penalties just.

Chief Justice (JC) LHC Aalia Neelum has remarked " government has enacted law. Follow it. You have come here to get abolish the law instead of implementing it. The legs of the children don't reach the earth and they are provided motorcycles. The challans of elder and younger of my family have too come. Heavy fine are imposed in the world on violation of traffic rules. Fine to the tune of one lac dirham is imposed in Dubai.

She gave these remarks during the hearing of the petition filed by Asif Shakir advocate against amendment in Motor Vehicle Ordinance.

The petitioner took the plea police are registering FIR against underage children. Heavy penalties are being imposed by enacting legislation . Imposing fine or registering FIR instead of creating awareness about traffic laws among the citizens is not correct.

The petitioner requested the court to declare null and void the amendments made in connection with imposition of heavy penalties.

CJ LHC remarked government has enacted law. Now follow it. The legs of children don't touch the earth and motorcycle is provided to them.

CJ LHC remarked police have told 5000 underage drivers have been killed and injured in the accidents due to violation of one way.

She said underage children run the motorcycle very fast. Heavy fine has been fixed so that people don't violate the rules.

Several cases of hit and run take place in streets and mohallas. Safety of our children is highly necessary. Therefore, they should become law abider. Government has said fine will be imposed on first violation and legal proceedings will be initiated on second violation.

The court remarked laws are enacted to bring betterment in society. Therefore legislation is must to make the citizens responsible. Parents too don't demonstrate responsibility.

The court rejected the petition declaring it non maintainable .
