LHC reserves judgment on petition against the imposition of levy tax on petroleum products

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved judgment on petition filed against imposition of levy tax on petroleum products.A two members bench of LHC comprising justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom and justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petition.Azhar Siddique advocate appeared on behalf of the petitioner.The counsel argued as per law petroleum Development levy tax is determined by parliament generally and Prime Minister (PM) cannot impose levy tax on his own.The counsel told the court PM imposed tax Rs 161 and then reduced it by Rs 80.It was argued on behalf of the federal government the petition is not maintainable. PM has full powers to impose levy tax.
