Lahore: A division bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) has reinstated Lt Gen Munir Afsar on his post of chairman NADRA.Federal government had filed petition in LHC against annulment of appointment of Lt Gen Munir Afsar as chairman NADRA.A two members bench of LHC suspended decision of singe bench.It is pertinent to mention here that citizen Ashba Kamran had challenged the appointment of chairman NADRA.The petitioner took the plea care taker government amended the rule and accorded approval to appointment of a serving army officer . The care taker government cannot interfere in permanent policy matters.The petitioner prayed to court to nullify NADRA amendment rules besides annulling the appointment of serving military officer as chairman NADRA. The state lawyer apprised the court that Nadra chairman's appointment notification was challenged in the plea. However, he added, the petitioner's request was limited only to the extent of the notification issued by the caretaker government.The applica nt never challenged the new rule, he said, He requested the court to annul the single-member bench's last week's verdict.The LHC suspended Justice Hafeez's ruling and restored Lt Gen Afsar's appointment as NADRA chairman. .It may be mentioned that in October 2023 the care taker federal government had appointed Lt Gen Muhammad Afsar as chairman NADRA who was then serving as IG communication and IT in GHQ.
