Rawalpindi: An important meeting was chaired by Senior Minister Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb and Minister Local Government, Zeeshan Rafiq to review headway on mega projects of Rawalpindi.According to the details, the meeting discussed various new initiatives including beautification of Murree Road, vertical gardening under flyovers and restoration of historical sites. In addition, introducing modern drainage and cleaning systems in the city, solutions to sewerage problems, and solarisation of WASA tube-wells were also analysed.Commissioner Rawalpindi briefed the chair regarding progress on development projects, master planning and urban facilities.The participants were briefed on measures to improve clean drinking water under 'The Dreams Project' which is under process in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, having a deadline for completion by year 2028.The project will provide clean drinking water to a population of 7.5 million. It was briefed that under the project, water would be obtained fr om Khanpur Dam, Chahan Dam and Rawal Dam and modern technology would be used to transport, treat, distribute and improve drinking water quality.It was briefed that flyover on Khawaja Corporation Chowk will be completed and functional by 15 April, 2025. Likewise, work has also been started on the GPO Chowk project. Traffic will be given a full diversion plan by blocking the project area to ensure early execution of the project.Addressing the meeting, Senior Minister Punjab Maryam Aurangzeb said that the development of Rawalpindi is the top priority of the government and timely completion of all development projects will be ensured.She said that in the past, many important projects of public interest have been put at halt by making them controversial . "Our top priority is to ensure transparency in these projects as well as staying away from all kinds of controversies and ensuring timely completion", she said.The Senior Minister directed to accelerate the sweeping activity during the anti-dengue campaig n. She urged all public representatives to play their proactive role in it.She further directed to provide all required facilities in the city's graveyards including boundary wall, lights, Janazagah, sewerage system etc.Minister Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq said that the government is taking every possible step to improve the living standards of the people through modern infrastructure and urban facilities.The meeting was attended by Member National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, Hanif Abbasi, MPAs including Shazia Rizwan, Tahira Mushtaq, Raja Hanif Advocate, Asma Naz, DC Rawalpindi and others.
