Mayor Karachi, others put on notice for not implementing court’s orders against encroachments

Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) Constitutional Bench has issued notice and sought reply from the respondents on contempt of court plea against mayor Karachi, Municipal commissioner and director anti-encroachment for not implementing court's orders for eradication of encroachments in Shah Faisal Colony.

The contempt of court plea against Mayor Karachi, Municipal Commissioner and director anti encroachment for not implementing court's orders in regard to elimination of encroachments in Shah Faisal Colony came up for hearing before a 2-member constitutional bench led by Justice Adnan ul Karim Memon Thursday.

Usman Farooq advocate counsel for the petitioner took the plea the court had ordered in 2016 to uproot encroachments in Shah Faisal Colony and counsel for KMC had assured regular monitoring of encroachments will be made.

He told the court no effective system of monitoring has been worked out. The encroachments removed by KMC have again been raised. Mayor Karachi as head of KMC and municipal commissioner as administrative officer are responsible for implementation of court's orders.

According to the counsel. contempt of court's proceedings be initiated against Mayor Karachi, Municipal commissioner and director anti-encroachment on violation of court's orders.

The court remarked the officers should appear before it in case reply is not filed.

The court sought reply from the respondents within 4 weeks.
