Mirpur: The late President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, was laid to rest in Mirpur. His funeral prayers were offered on Sunday at Quaid-e-Azam Stadium, Mirpur.
The funeral was attended by Acting President Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, former prime ministers, federal and state ministers, members of the assembly, heads of political parties, judges, senior civil and military officials, members of civil society, and prominent political, social, and religious leaders, along with thousands of people.
It may be noted that the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, passed away on Saturday at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last in Islamabad. Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry was elected Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir in 1996 and President in 2021, and he was elected nine times as a member of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly from Mirpur. His passing occurred just days before Kashmir Solidarity Day, which reaffirms the nation's firm resolve to continue the Kashmiri people's longstanding struggle.
Meanwhile, the Kashmiri pro-freedom leadership has expressed grief over the death of President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry. Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (Azad Kashmir and Pakistan chapter), Ghulam Muhammad Safi, expressed deep sorrow and grief over his demise, stating that his death is an irreparable loss for the Kashmiri nation.
