Karachi: Monem Zafar Khan, Chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi, inaugurated the Abdul Sattar Afghani Dispensary in Baghdadi, Lyari, along with district leadership.Speaking at the ceremony, Monem Zafar Khan paid a rich tribute to former Karachi mayor Abdul Sattar Afghani, describing him as a symbol of service, integrity and public struggle. He said late mayor Afghani had begun his political journey from Lyari and consistently prioritised public welfare.Establishing a dispensary in his name, he added, was a fitting acknowledgement of his services.Monem Zafar said that Jamaat-i-Islami was continuing to serve the public despite lacking access to power and resources, while criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party for what he termed its failure to provide basic facilities in Sindh despite being in power for 18 years. He questioned the utilisation of funds allocated for projects such as the Lyari Transformation Plan and gas sector revenues. He lamented the decline of Lyari, once known as a hub of football, boxing and cycling, attributing it to official neglect. He said sports facilities had deteriorated and drug abuse was affecting the youth.Referring to the 'Haq Do Lyari Tehreek' and 'Haq Do Karachi Tehreek', he described them as voices of the oppressed and urged residents to join the party's struggle against injustice and exploitation. He said the party was running various welfare initiatives, including health clinics, medical camps, eye care services, water filtration plants, informal schools, vocational centres and support programmes for orphans, as evidence of its commitment to practical service.
