Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Monem Zafar Khan, along with New Karachi Town Chairman Muhammad Yousuf and Vice Chairman Shoaib bin Zaheer, laid the foundation stone for the construction of 1,000 streets at the Town Municipal Corporation, New Karachi, on Saturday.Talking to media representatives, Monem Zafar Khan said that the occupying mayor should name even one out of his 13 towns where development work is comparable to that of New Karachi Town. He criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party's provincial government for claiming that work is being carried out in health and education under Bilawal's vision, saying that in reality, PPP's vision is 'ignorance for all.'He said Karachi's infrastructure is in a deplorable condition. Jahangir Road has been reconstructed for the third time, yet despite spending Rs 500 million, its condition is visible to everyone. He stated that the JI is fulfilling its responsibilities with honesty and integrity even under extremely unfavorable circumstances, while the p rovincial government is unwilling to give Karachi its due rights.He recalled that Hafiz Naeemur Rehman's clear vision was that whatever resources are available would be spent directly on the public. Despite limited resources, Jamaat-e-Islami's nine towns are actively serving the people, he said.He challenged the PPP to present even one of its 13 towns that can compete with New Karachi Town. He cited ongoing development works, including construction of 513 streets in Landhi Town, major roads and a model market in Nazimabad, and establishment of a Primary Healthcare Center in Gulberg Town.He said that the PPP had given Karachi nothing but false promises. He said the PPP, along with MQM, of occupying all major institutions of Karachi in order to destroy them through corruption and deprive citizens of basic facilities.Monem Zafar Khan praised the New Karachi Town administration for providing doorstep water supply to over 20,000 households, despite water supply being the responsibility of the Water and Sew erage Corporation.He expressed his displeasure that despite receiving Rs 1.6 billion, sewerage issues remain unresolved. He alleged that over the last 15 years, Rs 3,360 billion collected under infrastructure cess and Rs 1,360 billion received from the federal government were not spent on Karachi.He said the K-IV water project has been pending for 22 years, while Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has caused immense suffering for Karachiites. He emphasized that it is unacceptable for Karachi to run Pakistan's economy without receiving its rightful share, adding that past financial announcements never translated into actual benefits for the city. Jamaat-e-Islami, he said, would continue its struggle for the rights and authority of Karachi's people.Speaking on the occasion, Town Chairman Muhammad Yousuf said that the Water and Sewerage Corporation has completely failed in fulfilling its basic responsibilities. He said there is no sector in New Karachi where sewerage and water lines are not damaged. Despit e this, the JI spent Rs 90 million from the town budget to repair and improve these lines.He said New Karachi Town has earned the distinction of providing line water to over 20,000 households, reducing residents' monthly water expenses by Rs 40,000 to 50,000. He added that 1,000 manhole covers were distributed to address long-standing sewerage safety issues.
