New delhi: A detailed analysis of the Election Commission of Indias (ECI) recent voter roll revision in Bihar has found that Muslim voters were excluded at a significantly higher rate than non-Muslims, raising concerns about systemic discrimination in the electoral process.
The ECIs ¬special intensive revision® between June and September 2025 flagged over 6.5 million voters for scrutiny. Out of these, 1.6 million were Muslims³constituting nearly a quarter of all flagged voters. After verification, Muslims represented 32.1 percent of the 323,000 names permanently deleted.
The deletion rate for non-Muslims was 4.18 percent, while for Muslims it reached 6.38 percent ³ over 50 percent higher. The disparity was most evident in Seemanchal districts like Kishanganj, Araria, and Katihar, where exclusion rates were alarmingly high.
