Geneva: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has participated in the high-level event titled 'Upholding the UN Charter and International Law to Ensure International Peace and Security', hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran during the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva.
In his address to distinguished delegates, including heads of state, diplomats, and parliamentarians from across the globe, NA Speaker reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast commitment to the principles and purposes enshrined in the United Nations Charter. He underscored the Charter as the cornerstone of international peace, security, sovereignty, and the rule of law.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has strongly condemned Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling it an 'unjustified and illegitimate act' that violates Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity. 'These military strikes constitute a blatant violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental norms of international law,' he stated, emphasizing that such provocative actions undermine global peace and risk escalating regional tensions.
He further recalled that Pakistan's leadership and Parliament had condemned the aggression through formal statements and resolutions, and reiterated Pakistan's full support for Iran's sovereignty and its legitimate right to self-defence under the UN Charter.
Highlighting alarming trends in international affairs, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq cautioned against the growing normalization of illegal occupations, unilateral use of force, and violations of human rights. 'These actions erode the global rules-based order and undermine the legitimacy of the United Nations itself,' he warned.
NA Speaker also stated that issues of Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine are trial of the conscience of modern world. He stressed that the denial of the right to self-determination remains a persistent source of instability. 'UN Security Council resolutions continue to be flouted in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmiri people await the fulfilment of promises made to them by the international community,' he said. He also expressed deep concern over the continued plight of the Palestinian people.
Calling for renewed multilateralism and global accountability, he urged all member states to reaffirm their binding obligations under the UN Charter. He advocated for the peaceful resolution of disputes, non-interference in internal affairs, and strict adherence to international law as essential prerequisites for global peace.
Welcoming the resumption of dialogue between Iran and the E3 (Britain, France, and Germany), Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq voiced Pakistan's support for peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomacy and constructive engagement. 'Peace is the foundation for prosperity, development and regional growth in West Asia and the Middle East,' he remarked.
