Islamabad: Members of the Women Parliamentarians Caucus called on Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri, to express grave concern over the recent surge in cases of violence against women across Pakistan, particularly the alarming incidents reported in Rawalpindi and Islamabad over the past 10 days.
The meeting placed special focus on the tragic murder of Hina Javed. Chairperson NCSW and the Women Parliamentarians Caucus adopted a strong and unequivocal position, demanding an immediate, transparent, impartial and thorough investigation into the case. They called for full institutional support to law enforcement agencies to ensure that all facts are brought to light and that those responsible are held accountable and awarded exemplary punishment under the law.
The participants stressed that the recent cases of violence against women in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Balochistan and other parts of the country must be investigated comprehensively, with no room for negligence, delay or impunity.
The Women Parliamentarians Caucus committed to raise the Hina Javed case and the broader issue of violence against women on the floor of Parliament, seeking effective oversight, accountability and immediate measures to strengthen the protection of women across Pakistan.
The meeting also discussed strengthening the NCSW Complaint Management System (CMS) to ensure that women facing violence have accessible and effective mechanisms for complaints, referrals, legal support and protection. Members of the Caucus further assured their full support for the institutional strengthening and capacity building of NCSW to enable the Commission to more effectively fulfil its constitutional and statutory mandate.
The parliamentarians were also briefed on the NCSW Strategic Plan 2026-2029, its key priorities and its vision for strengthening women's protection, access to justice, empowerment and institutional response mechanisms. The members assured continued support from the National Assembly and Senate for stronger implementation of policies and legislation aimed at protecting and supporting women across Pakistan.
MNA Ms. Shahida Rehmani appreciated the tireless efforts of Chairperson NCSW Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri and reaffirmed her commitment to extending all-out parliamentary support to the Chairperson's efforts to strengthen women across Pakistan and ensure speedy justice for women facing violence, discrimination, injustice and vulnerable conditions, including women in prisons.
The meeting underscored that violence against women cannot be treated as isolated incidents. It requires a coordinated national response, institutional accountability, effective law enforcement, stronger complaint mechanisms and sustained parliamentary oversight.
Chairperson NCSW Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri reaffirmed that the Commission will continue to stand firmly with women facing violence and injustice and will work with Parliament, law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure protection, accountability, access to justice and dignity for every woman in Pakistan.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to accelerate collective efforts to end impunity, strengthen institutional mechanisms and ensure that every case of violence against women is investigated, prosecuted and brought to justice.
