Karachi: A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami members of the City Council, led by Opposition Leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Saifuddin Advocate, called on Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) parliamentary leader Muhammad Feroz Khan, here on Friday, at the PML-N Sindh office in connection with drumming up support for a no-confidence motion against Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
Speaking to the media alongside PML-N leaders after the meeting, Saifuddin Advocate said the mayor himself had become the cause of his failure, the current system had collapsed, and a no-confidence motion had become inevitable.
He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had failed to deliver anything for Karachi. The meeting reached complete consensus on the city’s deteriorating situation, and detailed consultations were held on future strategy.
He said consultations were also ongoing with allied members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while individu
al contacts were being made with PPP members as well.
He said that the situation so far was very encouraging, and all parties agreed that the current system had completely failed. If given the opportunity for free voting, three-quarters of PPP members would also vote in favor of the no-confidence motion.
Saifuddin Advocate said that Karachi residents would receive good news within a few days and vowed that the JI would continue its struggle to free the city from what he termed a failed, corrupt, and imposed system.
Muhammad Feroz Khan said the city’s conditions were extremely poor, citing the sewerage crisis and damaged roads. He noted that consultations with Saifuddin Advocate were underway to make a joint decision for a better future for Karachi.
The JI delegation included Deputy Parliamentary Leader Junaid Makati and City Council members Fazal Ahad, Nauman Ilyas, Afaq Baig, and Taimur Ahmad. On the other hand, Muhammad Yaqoob, Akrash Mustafa Rehman Siddiqui, Hakim Khan, Sher Ahmed, and Muhammad Naeem K
amran represented the PML-N.
It is noteworthy that Jamaat-e-Islami has already begun securing signatures in the City Council for the no-confidence motion. Saifuddin Advocate further stated that there had been no improvement in water supply, sewerage, solid waste management, roads, or law and order, alleging widespread mismanagement, corruption, and looting. He said the Gul Plaza tragedy had exposed the system’s failure and corruption, proving the current government lacked both competence and capability.
He added that JI would not leave Karachi’s citizens alone and would continue its struggle to free the city from what he described as an imposed mayor and PPP government. A sit-in protest has already been announced outside the Sindh Assembly building on February 14.
He also accused the mayor of failing to conduct City Council sessions properly or approve projects through consultation, alleging that multi-billion-rupee projects were being approved without discussion and large portions of city parks were being
leased out. He said government resolutions were presented in the council, but no practical work was visible on the ground.
