Quetta: Pakistan Customs has foiled a major attempt to smuggle gold in a border area of Balochistan, seizing 6.162 kilograms of gold biscuits worth approximately Rs250 million.

According to Pakistan Customs, the action was carried out by the Field Enforcement Unit (FEU) Shela Bagh of Customs Enforcement Quetta on a tip-off.

The smuggling attempt was thwarted in a timely operation conducted with the cooperation of the Frontier Corps.

Customs officials said the seizure was made as a result of effective surveillance and intelligence-based action at FEU Shela Bagh.

The seized gold weighing 6.162 kilograms has been deposited at the State Warehouse Quetta, the department said.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the gold smuggling attempt, while further legal proceedings are underway.

Pakistan Customs said anti-smuggling operations in Balochistan had been intensified, with surveillance strengthened at sensitive routes and entry and exit points.

The department reiterated its commitment to taking indiscriminate action against smuggling and protecting government revenues.
