Kuala lumpur: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met YB Liew Chin Tong, Malaysia's Deputy Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), to discuss avenues for expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference held in Kuala Lumpur on October 6. The Minister for Commerce accompanied Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during his state visit to Malaysia from October 5 to 7.

Both sides reviewed the current status of Pakistan-Malaysia trade relations and explored new opportunities for collaboration in information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, automotive, aviation, agro-food, and halal trade sectors.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of ten (10) Business-to-Business (B2B) Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani and Malaysian companies in the areas of agro-food, export of gelatine, and seafood.

They expressed satisfaction over the productive discussions held between Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming their shared commitment to enhancing economic cooperation.

Both leaders underscored the need to deepen economic ties and expand collaboration in manufacturing, technology, and green energy. They also discussed potential ventures to strengthen Pakistan's export base and attract Malaysian investment in key industries for mutual benefit.

The meeting emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation and renewal of the Malaysia-Pakistan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) to facilitate broader economic engagement.
