Pakistan raises concern over developments in Venezuela

New york: Pakistan has expressed profound concern over the recent developments in Venezuela, calling for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes.

Pakistan's Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations Usman Jadoon, while speaking at the emergency session of UN Security Council, said in a world already beset by multiple crises, escalating tensions and instability in the Caribbean do not augur well for regional and international peace and security.

He said the UN Charter binds Member States to sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of others, and settlement of international disputes by peaceful means.

Usman Jadoon said unilateral military action contravenes these sacrosanct principles and the doctrine of sovereign immunity.

He said Pakistan urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions and refrain from any actions that could exacerbate the volatile situation.
