Lahore: Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad of Lahore High Court (LHC) has adjourned after Eid hearing of the petition seeking court's orders for holding Local Bodies (LB) polls on party basis in Punjab.
The court gave time to counsel for the Election Commission for preparation and filing reply.
The court summoned the lawyers tomorrow for giving arguments on administrative and financial powers of local representatives.
Secretary local government presented in the court report on approval of rules from the cabinet .
The court remarked holding LB polls is constitutional obligation. Parliament and election commission can not stop implementation of constitution. The process of legislators with reference to legislation should be appreciated.
Law makers if do only this work they will find no time for doing some other work .
The state counsel took the plea there is space for party affiliation in the rules. Only independent candidate cannot obtain party symbol.
MPA Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood took the plea Punjab government is going to hold LB polls in the province. Amendments have been made in Punjab local government act 2017.
Election commission has issued schedule for LB polls These elections are being held on non party basis. This act on the part of government will cause harm to the democracy. The court should order for holding LB polls on party basis.
