Islamabad: Persistent high temperatures and forecast rainfall/thunderstorms over GB, KP and AJandK are expected to accelerate glacier and snow melt during 26 June-03 July 2026.

Increased meltwater and rainfall may raise river flows and exert additional pressure on glacial lakes, increasing the risk of GLOFs, flash floods, debris flows, landslides and mudflows.

Vulnerable areas across Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Skardu, Shigar, Ghanche, Kharmang, Astore, Diamer, Upper and Lower Chitral, Swat, and adjoining glacier-fed catchments, including Badswat, Ishkoman, Hinarchi, Tersat Hundur, Ultar, Owir, Chianter, Gupis, Yasin, Sost, Raushan, Hakis, Chatiboi, Thalu-1 and 2,, Reshun, Brep, Booni, Sardar Gol, Pindoru Chaat and surrounding areas.

Increased likelihood of localized GLOFs, flash floods, debris flows, mudflows and landslides.

Sudden rise in river and stream flows, posing risks to downstream communities, roads, bridges, irrigation channels, and other critical infrastructure.

Temporary disruption of transportation and possible isolation of remote mountain communities

Maintain heightened monitoring of vulnerable glacial lakes, river discharges, and weather conditions in high-risk catchments.

Remain vigilant for unusual increases in water levels, river turbidity, or cracking sounds from glacier areas and report any signs of instability immediately.

Tourists, travelers and local communities are advised to avoid unnecessary activities near glacier-fed rivers and streams and remain updated through official weather advisories and early warning alerts.
