Petition against allowing by govt to ISI to tap phone calls of citizens sent to CJ LHC to constitute larger bench

LAHORE: Justice Farooq Haider of Lahore High Court (LHC) has recommended to constitute larger bench in respect of petition filed against allowing by government to Inter Service Agency (ISI) to tap phone calls of citizens.Justice Farooq Haider took up for hearing petition filed by former member of assembly Ghulam Sarwar Friday.Justice Farooq Haider sent the petition to Chief Justice (CJ) LHC to constitute larger bench.The court said in its note important points have been raised in the petition. Therefore, larger bench be constituted to hear the case.The federal government step for allowing ISI to tap phone calls of the citizens was challenged in the court.Prime Minister, federal government and Pakistan Telecommunication have been made respondents in the petition.The petition said government of Pakistan through a notification has allowed ISI to tap phone calls of the citizens. The PTA act under which this notification has been issued , its rules have not been framed so far.Constitution o f Pakistan ensures privacy and freedom of expression to the citizens.The petition added as per Indian SC decision tapping phone calls of citizens is violation of the constitution.The petitioner prayed the court to declare illegal the notification through which ISI has been given permission to tap phones of citizens.
