Peshawar: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has restrained Election Commission (EC) from initiating any proceedings against opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub .
Opposition leader resorted to PHC against sending notice by EC for not filing report about assets.
Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Khurshid Iqbal heard the petition.
Counsel for Omar Ayub informed the court EC has issued notice against not submitting report regarding assets. It is imperative to give reply within 120 days regarding assets. We have given reply even then EC has not been satisfied.
Counsel for petitioner took the plea EC cannot issue notice to any one due to complaint regarding assets after 120 days of providing information about assets.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) informed the court a case of the similar nature is pending hearing in Abbottabad.
The counsel told the court that case is entirely different from this case.
The court remarked either we should send this case there or call that case here.
The counsel for petitioner said Court do what it deems proper. It is requested that this case be abolished. This case has no basis. We have filed assets report to EC on December 31, 2024.
The court while adjourning the hearing of the case stopped EC from initiating proceedings.
