Peshawar: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has suspended the notification regarding facility of free supply of electricity to employees of grade 17 and above.Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Inam Ullah Khan of PHC issued written order after hearing the petition filed against abolition of facility of free supply of electricity to TESCO employees.The court suspended the notification on ending the free electricity supply facility to employees of grade 17 and above.The court stayed the implementation of notification issued by government on December 05, 2023 and May 6, 2026.The court has issued interim order on the petition filed by TESCO employees against abolition of free supply of electricity facility to them.Muhammad Farooq Malik counsel for the petitioner took the plea free electricity is part of basic agreement of service and its unilateral abolition is illegal. The abolition of facility of free supply of electricity is violation of article 4, 18, 24 and 25 of the constitution.According to counsel care t aker government had abolished the facility of free supply of electricity to the employees of grade 17 and above. The care taker government has no powers to affect the rights of the employees through policy decisions. TESCO is an independent corporate institution. Government notification does not conform to procedure of company.The court ordered next hearing of the case is adjourned till June 18, 2026. The government orders on suspension of free supply of electricity facility will remain suspended till next hearing.
