Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a high level committee for de-regulating sugar sector. Committee will work out practicable proposals for reforms and privatization in sugar sector. Energy minister will be chairman of committee while sectary ministry of industries and production will be convener of committee.
Finance minister, minster for national food security and research and minister for economic affairs will be members of committee. According to its TORs, Committee will review all existing rules and regulations, laws and policies at federal and provincial level as per Committee TORs which relate to production of sugar, imports, exports, determination of prices, subsidy and hoarding.
Committee will evolve policy recommendations on stocks of grains, supply, correction of data regarding price, interest of farmers, rights of consumer, local demand and trade requirements. Committee will make consultation with respective stake holders including industrialists. farming community and regulatory authority to make privatization process transparent and coherent. Committee will submit its report to PM within 30 days.
