Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed to start preparations from just now to avoid any loss of life and property in next monsoon season.

A review meeting in Islamabad regarding government strategy to avert the climate change induced losses and mitigation plan was held under the PM Wednesday.

Shehbaz Sharif instructed that the Ministry of Climate Change, Ministry of Planning and the NDMA should work in collaboration with the provincial governments to evolve a comprehensive strategy regarding the climate change.

He also directed to start preparations for arranging a meeting of the National Water Council to formulate a national plan for better water management.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said Pakistan is a developing country, and a substantial amount of the GDP has to be spent to mitigate adverse impacts of climate change after every three years. He said instead of development, our precious and limited resources are used to prevent the hazardous impacts of climate change.

The PM said Pakistan does not play any big role in climate change at international level and even then it is being hit by adverse impacts of climate change.

Long term, mid term and short term plans came under consideration of PM.

The PM directed to implement short term plan immediately.

Meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Dr. Musadik Malik, Attaullah Tarar and other relevant authorities.
