Islamabad: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed for taking steps to resolve all revenue-related cases at the earliest.
Chairing a review meeting on expediting FBR's legal cases in Islamabad on Thursday, PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed the FBR to hire reputable lawyers for tax revenue-related cases.
The Prime Minister said the government is implementing reforms in the FBR system at a fast pace, which are now yielding positive results. He also directed a forensic audit of the revenue-related cases.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said officers found involved in creating cases on weak or incorrect grounds will be duly punished. However, he said that officers who establish cases on merit with honesty and hard work should be rewarded with special prizes.
The meeting was informed that, after the Prime Minister's directive, the inclusion of reputable lawyers on the panel led to the resolution of 586 cases in the High Court and 637 pending cases in the Supreme Court from July to December last year.
It was further told that 33,522 cases worth 4.7 trillion rupees are currently pending in various courts and tribunals across the country.
The meeting was updated that, as per the directions of the Prime Minister, a litigation management dashboard for higher courts has been prepared in the FBR. However, the preparation of the tax tribunals management system in the Ministry of Law and Justice is in its final stages and will be launched soon.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the country's positive economic indicators reflect the conducive environment for business created by recent economic policies.
Talking to a delegation of Menzies Aviation led by Chief Executive Officer Philip Joeinig in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the government is fully committed to driving national development after achieving economic stability.
PM Shehbaz Sharif noted the development of national economy is closely linked to the progress of the IT sector. He said our IT exports have been continuously increasing due to investor friendly policies.
The Prime Minister welcomed Menzies Aviation's establishment of an IT infrastructure and service desk in Pakistan. He said this is a significant milestone for the national economy, especially the IT sector.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed the confidence that the recent economic growth and Menzies Aviation's arrival in Pakistan will help attract other international companies to invest in the country. He noted that foreign investment will create more job opportunities for the youth.
