Ashgabat: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the International Year of Peace and Trust forum in Ashgabat today. The meeting was marked by warm and cordial exchanges reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the two neighbouring countries.

Both leaders appreciated the strong support extended by Pakistan and Iran to each other earlier this year when they faced external aggression. Reviewing the progress made in bilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister highlighted the successful convening of the 22nd Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission and underscored the need to further enhance trade, operationalize border markets, strengthen border security, and reinvigorate regional connectivity through the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul rail corridor.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of urging the Afghan Taliban regime to take meaningful steps to address Pakistan's serious security concerns related to terrorism from Afghan soil.

Discussions also covered ongoing peace efforts in Gaza. President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for the timely and constructive exchange of views and reiterated Iran's desire to further deepen its relations with Pakistan.

The meeting reaffirmed the close, brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, rooted in shared history, culture and faith. Both sides agreed to continue regular high-level engagements to further consolidate bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed warm regards and best wishes for His Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran.
