Islamabad: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday sent the summary to President Asif Ali Zardari for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister Office, General Syed Asim Munir will hold both the positions of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.
It was also approved to extend the service of Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu – the current Chief of Air Staff – by two years beyond his existing tenure.
The extension for Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu will take effect when his current five-year term ends in March 2026.
