Islamabad: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Tuesday and took him into confidence on the decision to promote General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal.

President Asif Ali Zardari said the armed forces under the leadership of General Syed Asim Munir successfully defended the motherland.

He said General Syed Asim Munir deserves the promotion to the rank of Field Marshal for giving a decisive response to the Indian aggression, successfully defending the nation, and demonstrating an exceptional war strategy.

During the meeting, military leadership and the armed forces of Pakistan were commended for their effective response to Indian attacks.

Law Minister Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazeer Tarar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.
