Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has written another letter to National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai regarding a meeting between the two leaders and consultations over appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

According to sources, the prime minister has invited Achakzai to the Prime Minister House for consultations. Achakzai's spokesman, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, confirmed receipt of the letter.

He said the government appeared to be backtracking from commitments made during previous meetings. 'We expect Rana Sanaullah and others to stand by their word,' the spokesman said.

The development comes amid ongoing consultations between the government and opposition over the appointment of a new Chief Election Commissioner and two ECP members. Achakzai had earlier written to the prime minister seeking initiation of the constitutional process for the appointments. (The Express Tribune)
