Islamabad: Saad Akhtar Bharwana, Commandant, National Police Academy, Islamabad, and Muhammad Nawaz Wahla, Dean, NUST Law School, called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Khan Afridi on Wednesday at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Commandant, National Police Academy, briefed the Chief Justice on the training programmes being conducted at the Academy for police officers. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the Federal Judicial Academy to strengthen officers' understanding of criminal law, investigation procedures, evidence collection, case preparation and courtroom requirements. Such collaboration would contribute to more professional investigations, improved quality of evidence and effective prosecution, thereby supporting the fair and efficient administration of criminal justice.
The Dean, NUST Law School, apprised the Chief Justice of the institution's legal education programmes and proposed collaboration with the Federal Judicial Academy. The collaboration would provide law students with greater practical exposure to judicial processes, professional ethics, emerging areas of law and the functioning of justice-sector institutions, enabling them to enter the legal profession with stronger skills and a clearer understanding of their responsibilities.
The Chief Justice observed that police officers and law students are important stakeholders in the dispensation of justice. He appreciated the National Police Academy's role in developing professionally competent, law-conscious and rights-sensitive police officers, whose performance at the stages of investigation and evidence collection has a direct bearing on the quality of criminal justice.
The Chief Justice also appreciated the contribution of NUST Law School towards developing knowledgeable, ethically grounded and professionally capable future members of the legal fraternity, emphasizing that the quality of legal education is fundamental to strengthening the Bar and, consequently, the judicial system.
Welcoming the proposed collaboration of both institutions with the Federal Judicial Academy, the Chief Justice assured them of every possible support for developing meaningful joint initiatives aimed at capacity-building, institutional learning and strengthening the overall administration of justice.
