LAHORE: Powers for giving permission to intelligence agency to tap phones of the citizens have been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).Fahd Shabbir, citizen of Lahore has filed petition in LHC through advocate Nadim Sarwar making Prime Minister, federal government, Pakistan telecommunication and others respondents.The petitioner has taken plea in the petition that government through a notification has allowed intelligence agency to tap phones. The section of PTA act under which notification has been issued , its rules have not been framed so far. Constitution of Pakistan provides freedom of privacy and expression to the citizens.The citizen said that according to Indian Supreme Court tapping the phones of people is violation of constitution.It is requested the notification of government for allowing the intelligence agency to tap the phones of citizens be declared illegal.The proceedings of the said notification be suspended till final decision of the petition.The citizen requested the court to issue directives to government to frame rules of section 56 of PTA act.
