Karachi: Jamaat-e-islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar has said that the PPP-led provincial government and the 'imposed mayor' hadbnot provided even a single rupee in development funds to JI's nine towns over the past two and a half years.Despite limited authority and resources, JI town chairmen are continuing public service and development work, he added while addressing inauguration ceremonies of Ghufran Family Park in UC-3 Block 16, Gulberg Town, and a model neighborhood project including paved streets, drainage systems, and streetlights in Welfare Colony, UC-1, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town.Monem Zafar challenged Murtaza Wahab to present the performance of any one of PPP's 13 towns that could match JI-administered towns.He said PPP is unwilling to transfer powers and resources to the grassroots level, whereas JI believes in decentralization, citing the provision of loading vehicles, fumigation machines, and dewatering pumps to various union councils-including those led by other parties-as a practical exampl e.He said that PPP has 'swallowed' Rs 3,360 billion of Karachi over the past 15 years, stating that if this amount had been spent on the city, its current poor condition would not exist. He reiterated the demand that Karachi's resources be spent on Karachi and Karachiites. He announced that the 'Jeenay Do Karachi' movement would be intensified after Eid-ul-Fitr.He further said that effective measures are essential for providing basic facilities, curbing street crime, and promoting business activities, but the PPP provincial government has failed in these areas. He urged citizens to support JI in its efforts to restore Karachi as the 'City of Lights.'Naeem Akhtar said that whenever JI has been given authority, it has prioritized public service. Dr. Fawad Ahmed stated that the 2023 local government elections proved the public's decision right, as JI has fulfilled its promises despite limited funds, completing paving work in 11 streets and planning further road construction in multiple areas.Nasratullah added that 40 parks have been restored in Gulberg Town over the past two and a half years, many equipped with open-air gyms. He said efforts are underway to make Gulberg a model town, emphasizing that Karachi contributes 67% to the national revenue and 95% to the provincial budget, yet its residents lack basic facilities.Other speakers at the events included District East Ameer Naeem Akhtar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed, Gulberg Town Chairman Nasratullah, and Vice Town Chairman Gulshan-e-Iqbal Ibrahim Siddiqui. Several officials and local representatives were also present. A large number of residents, including women, attended the ceremonies and appreciated the development work.It is pertinent to mention here that the Ghufran Family Park includes an open-air gym, play area, and both soft and hard walking tracks. Residents of Welfare Colony expressed happiness over development work after 22 years, while the business community also welcomed the initiative.
